Will finding cool stuff

[Editor’s Note: Occasionally, we will repost a previously published article on the blog. Our community is growing quickly and that means this might be new to a lot of folks. This was originally posted on June 15, 2009.  It was written by Will deBock.]

I have been thinking about the sociological implications of Avatars for a few years now.  What do avatars tell us about ourselves?  What do avatars convey to people we know?  What about for people we don’t know well?  And are they appropriate for online teachers?

I don’t know the answers, but above is a simple avatar I made at doppelme.com.

I, or some avatar-me, will see you on the web,

  1. Cool, and clearly you were ahead of your time then and are still! Thanks for the repost, Will. You and Laurie do an awesome job with this blog. I’ve been enjoying it for a long time yet don’t tell you often enough how appreciated you are and how great of an impact the Innovations Lab has had on my work in the KU Writing Center. A belated Happy New Year to the Innovations Lab!
