Puzzling Games: Weekend Web Article

[Editor’s Note: This article was written by Laurie Hansen of the CTL!]

Samorost-1 is a curious-looking (free) puzzle game that resembles Myst. The adventure of the nameless main character (a cute little guy) takes place in outer space on a particular futuristic planetoid. Samorost requires you to interact with the characters, scenery, animals, insects and machinery by pointing and clicking. Your choices and actions determine the little guy’s fate. There are no obvious hints to help you solve the puzzles or overcome his obstacles. You have to observe astutely, use your noodle and click everywhere and anywhere to find a solution!

While playing with my 9 year old daughter, each time we solved a problem or puzzle and went to another level, she exclaimed, “Look mom, this is the cool part!” This problem-solving game fosters critical thinking, is aesthetically pleasing and is just plain fun!
